Diese Dokumentation über HipHop in Bogotá richtet ein Spotlight auf Rap-Musik und Graffiti. Die gemalten Wände und die Reime sind Manifestationen von Ungehorsam gegen Regierung, Paramilitär & Drogenkrieg. Diese sprachlichen Ausdrucksweisen auf Wänden und in Versen kommunizieren mit der Stadt und ihren Bewohnern. Aber was sagen sie? Der Film versucht dies durch den Kontext des Alltäglichen zu beantworten. Obwohl dies in dem Film nur indirekt zum Tragen kommt, sollte man bedenken, dass all dies vor dem Hintergrund von psychologischer Kriegsführung, Zensur und Repression stattfindet, diese Strategien wirken sich auf viele Bereiche des sozialen Lebens in aus, sind Teil des Alltags...

Obwohl es keine Zahlen oder Statistiken über die HipHop-Szene in Bogotá gibt, spricht die Größe der Bewegung für sich selbst. Massen von HipHop-Afficionados kommen auch jedes Jahr zum Festival “Hip-Hop al Parque” zusammen, welches das größte dieser Art in Lateinamerika ist. Seit den späten 80ern ist hiphop für viele zu einem Lifestyle geworden, besonders für die Unterschicht ist es eine der wenigen Alternativen zu Gewalt oder Drogen. Die Rapper und Writer erzählen Vergangenheit und Gegenwart von HipHop in Bogotá. Eines der Ziele von "Bogotá, Muro y Palabra" ist, die weltweit verbreiteten HipHop-Stereotypen aufzubrechen.

This documentary approaches two of the four elements in the Hip-Hop culture in a specific context: Graffiti and Rap in Bogotá. The painted walls and the lyrics of the rappers are manifestations of discord against the predominant powers; these are expressions of language - on walls and in songs - the verses over instrumentals - or names on walls combine to communicate. What do they communicate? Their day to day context, what the writers experience is represented in walls and rhymes, and this story is told by them: Mc’s and Writers.

A big amount of people is related with Hip-Hop Culture in Bogotá, no numbers or statistics are needed to realize it, when big crowds gather every year in a festival called “Hip-Hop al Parque” - the biggest of its genre in Latin America, this shows clear enough that the movement is massive. Since the late 80’s, some young people have assumed hip-hop as a lifestyle, and also, as a channel to keep away from different kinds of illegal activities in a poor and violent context. The characters that appear in this documentary narrate in past and present, the voices of dissent share space with those artists who fill empty spaces in gray cities. One of the aims of Bogotá, Muro y Palabra is to break feeble stereotypes related with Hip-Hop culture world wide.
